Certification
The interest of certification is to prove that you have the required knowledge in theory but also in practical application.
The ISO 18436-2:2003 standard defines for example 4 categories of certification.
We are not allowed to show you the complete standard because of the copyright law but you can purchase it from the ISO directly.
Below, you find the conditions for examination following the ISO 18436-2 standard:
Level | Number of questions | Duration | Pass mark |
Category 1 | 50 | 2 hours | 70% |
Category 2 | 100 | 3 hours | 70% |
Category 3 | 100 | 4 hours | 70% |
Category 4 | 60 | 5 hours | 70% |
As per the standard, all of the questions are multiple choice (four options to choose from).
You are required to perform some calculations. The calculator is placed at your disposal by the examinator.
The exam is "closed book", however you are provided with a booklet of standard tables, charts, formulas and basic reference material by the examinator.
There are practical prerequisites for each certification level:
Level | Number of months of practical experience |
Category 1 | 6 |
Category 2 | 18 |
Category 3 | 36 |
Category 4 | 60 |
Period of validity
As per the standard, certification remains valid for five (5) years. You may take the exam again within the 5 year period, or you can provide evidence of continued activity and study in vibration analysis and your period of certification will be extended without examination.
